Banbury's knitting department is my favourite place to buy everything to do with knitting in town. The staff are really helpful and you will always find inspiring and unusual knitting patterns and books. At present the department has some brilliant patterns and books for making Olympic and Jubilee themed items. Take a look at their bright knitted bunting and Queen's crown in their shop window as you pass and you will get a flavour of what you can make in time for the celebrations if you get your needles out and get busy now. Their knitted bunting pattern comes free if you buy their wool which is £1.80 per 100g ball in red, white or blue. They also have a childs' Union Jack jumper pattern (£3) and Union Jack cushion and throw set pattern (£3.50). Talented knitters will love making colourful London Jubilee characters featured in their book 'Stitch London'. (£12.99). They also currently have a knitting book for Olympics characters called 'Knitting for Gold' (£7.99). For pictures of these items see separate gallery.

This excellent department store is in the heart of the Barnstaple High Street. It has perfume, make up, shoes, luggage, bedding, kitchenware, mens clothes, women's clothes, a cafe, crockery, toilets and a lot more. The shop is always well staffed. I know all this because I have followed my girlfriend around this shop many a time!
A delightful department store right in the centre of the High street.
I spent most of this morning upstairs in the ladies wear department looking for a wedding outfit for my mother. The staff were attentive, helpful and friendly - nothing was too much trouble. they even managed to reduce the cost of her final choice of outfit by 10per cent.
Downstairs we revived ourselves on the massage chairs and had a look around the other departments for shoes and handbags to match "the outfit"!

ReportI LOVE this shop! its one of those shops that has something for every one shoes for the ladies hats for gentleman puzzles for children! kitchen bed linen perfumes make up in fact its the whole of Barnstaple shops all put into one!
The cafe is good but does get incredibly busy like you'd expect!
You can get some real bargains from the kitchen department I recently got a spice rack with 20 spices on a rotating table for £35 down from £70! It also has Toilets up stairs these toilets are spot on in the center of town and your never frowned upon for just running up and using them weather you are buying something in there or not!

ReportThis is a traditional department store ... with departments! The staff are obviously well trained and helpful. There is a lot here which may be overlooked by many high street shoppers looking for the names they recognise. It's great for fashions, home and cook wares, jewellery, lovely shoes (good quality not found elsewhere in Barnstaple) and they even have old fashioned swimming hats (a must see).

ReportThe staff in all the departments are well trained, helpful and friendly.
There is a lovely cafe/restaurant on the first floor where you can take a break from shopping for a coffee or lunch.
The different departments make interesting shopping and there is certainly something for everybody here.
My husband especially liked the massage chairs on the first floor!
There is a lovely kitchen department at the back of the shop which has just about everything you could need for your kitchen, (and somethings you didn't even know existed!)

ReportBuying salt and pepper mills might sound easy but I was standing in Banbury's last weekend musing (out loud) 'how do I know which are the good ones?'. A very helpful sales lady approached and gave me a detailed explanation of the different types of salt and pepper mill. Thank you Banbury's - you obvioulsy train your staff well!
