A BARNSTAPLE primary school has been praised for its improvement over the past two years.

Ofsted inspectors visited Yeo Valley Primary School in March and have deemed the establishment “good” overall.

At the last inspection in November 2009, the school was issued a notice to improve teaching across the school, particularly in writing, governance and provision in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

However, in their report issued last week, inspectors said the school “no longer requires significant improvement”.

Inspector David Townsend said: “Teaching is much improved and consistently good.

“Pupils are polite, well mannered and welcoming.

“The staff team share a collective vision and are motivated to achieve the best for the pupils in their care.”

Headteacher Jan Reid said: “The staff are extremely pleased and proud to receive the recognition the school deserves.

“The children are a credit to the school and their academic achievements and excellent progress are evidence of their hard work.”
