Ex Petroc Barnstaple Student Supports Sport with Subway Sponsorship

A former Petroc Barnstaple student who brought the Subway fast food franchise to the South West is supporting his old college by sponsoring their sports kits.

Matthew Symons studied A levels at what was then North Devon College over ten years ago.  He and  Harvey Brown, his partner in Symbro Ltd who hold the Subway franchise, first discovered Subway when travelling in the USA.  They opened their first Subway outlet in Barnstaple in 2005 and now run twelve of the takeaways in towns across the South West including Barnstaple, Bideford and Ilfracombe.

Matthew, now aged 30, is pleased to be able to give something back to his former college and to today's students.  He says “We’re very happy to work with the College as healthy eating is our thing – we want to support sport wherever we can. This is by far the biggest thing we have done to date.”

Petroc are keen to continue to build strong links in the community to support student development, and the sponsorship deal with Subway is already proving to be a great success.

“We are really pleased to be entering a working partnership with Subway this year,” said Kevin Hazell, Head of Petroc’s School of Health & Fitness.

“They have been really supportive, and staff & students have benefited by having quality new team kits in which to approach the new season. We look forward to a long and prosperous partnership with Subway in order to create further enhancement opportunities for our students for the future.”

Petroc’s Barnstaple sports teams will now be proudly wearing the new kit at all of their fixtures.
