According to the Land Registry figures for July 2010, house prices in Devon have risen by 8.1% over the past year. The average house price in Devon as a county is currently £197,060. Of course Devon is such a huge county with wildly varying economies and geography that these figures may not be relevant to house buyers in Barnstaple. For around this 'average' house price in Barnstaple you could get this flat in Rumsam or this 4 bedroomed house at Silverwood Heights.
In Barnstaple we have the choice of in or out of town, terraced town house, country cottage, old barn conversions or new builds.
First time buyers in the town can get a one bedroom flat in Barton Road for £74,950 which is on the market with Chequers Estate Agents. Or for the same price Bond Oxborough Phillips has a lovely one bed apartment just off Bear Street.
If you are already on the property ladder and thinking of climbing a bit higher Webbers have two bedroomed houses like this one in Newport from only £119,950. For two bedrooms but more space out of town John Smale & Co have a lovely detached bungalow in Fremington for £199,950.
For the larger family you could get this fabulous four bed house in Bishops Tawton which is on the market with Phillips, Smith and Dunn for an asking price of £349,950.
New build houses are often excellent value and Bloor Homes are offering a five bedroomed house at the Taw Vale Quay development in Yelland for £299,950.
Some of us are dreaming of winning the lottery and have our sights sent on properties like this beautiful estate which is on the market with Stags in Barnstaple for a mere £1,400,000.
So if you're buying or selling your home in Barnstaple this year start right here on barnstaplepeople ... good luck!

My first stop to buying a house was checking out how much I could borrow - this way you know exactly what price range you are looking at.
I found the staff at the Halifax in the High street really helpful. They were able to give me a "mortgage promise" which means that I know how much money I can borrow.
This shows my good intentions to the sellers, they know I am not a time waster.
It also means that when I do find a place to buy the mortgage can be completed quickly and easily.
Thanks Halifax for being so helpful.
