The little things in life matter too.

I’ve been writing haiku and reading them at performances for many years now, and people have often told me about the healing power that some of my poems have had on them: “The processes of reading and writing our own haiku have had a beneficial effect too.”

Reading and writing haiku can be so calming. The act of writing down one’s thoughts can be emotionally stimulating. Haiku focuses the mind on the little things in life. Haiku can steer us away from the big issues for a while: war, death, ageing, pain and the stresses and strains of work, etc.

Why not write a haiku today?
