Flipping good day at Heanton Nursing Home

Staff and residents at the award-winning Heanton Nursing Home celebrated the beginning of Lent this week with plenty of pancake treats.
Traditionally, pancakes were eaten on Shrove Tuesday as a means of using up eggs and butter before the Lenten fast.
At the 52-bed Nursing Home, near Barnstaple, they have become an eagerly anticipated part of the home’s events calendar.
After lunch residents enjoyed helping to mix their pancakes, which were made by the home’s chef, before dressing them with sugar and lemon.
Home Manager Jo Rutherford told us: “We pride ourselves on our pro-active calendar of events and activities, so for Lent we’re thinking of taking up new hobbies with the residents rather than giving things up.
“Not only is Pancake Day an excuse for a feast but it also marks another step towards spring and the warmer weather when we can use our garden area for future events.”
