This well loved Barnstaple club started in 1971 when four friends interested in railways started meeting in the disused booking office at Umberleigh station.

Over the years the club's moved to several different locations and has modelled everything from N guage to 0 guage, big and small layouts.

The Barnstaple Model Railway club received top prize at the Bristol Model Railway Show in 1991 for the best layout voted by the visitors at the show.

The club has made a great little video you can watch of their 'Ballast Train Arriving at Tawbridge' on their homepage at

This is a must see for everyone - even if you don't join the club!

Currently meeting on Tuesday evenings 7-9.30pm in Fremington with some people running the layout while others sit/stand and have a natter.

Soon the club is going to be working on details of a new layout and would like to involve everyone who is interested.

If you'd like to get involved or would just like to pop along and see what it's like (no pressure to join) contact:
