What an amazing week it's been covering news in Barnstaple.

First the sad and sombre, deeply moving Rock Park remembrance, parade and church service last Sunday.

Then the exhilarating, proud parade celebrating the safe return of the Commando Logistic Regiment from Afghanistan attended by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

It was touching to see so many thousands of people from Barnstaple and surrounding areas attending these two events.

Special thanks to Barnstaple resident and member of Barnstaple People Alban Shrimpton who kindly took some photos which were added to the parade gallery for the Commando Logistic Regiment safe return.

This week turns to Christmas magic and excitement starting with this afternoon's Christmas Lights Switch On with some wonderful on-stage entertainment in the Square.

This is sure to be a most enjoyable free family fun event as the Christmas shopping and party season gets in full swing.

Hopefully there will be a gallery of pics later on to celebrate the day.
