Plans for 820 homes at Larkbear submitted to North Devon Council

PLANS for a huge housing development at Larkbear, on the outskirts of Barnstaple, have been lodged with North Devon Council.
The plans, for up to 820 homes, form an outline application submitted by Persimmon Homes and Elan Homes for the site, which sits between North Devon Crematorium, Petroc and the village of Lake.
The plans include a detailed map showing the areas of the 58 acre site which will be developed and access roads but do not include a specific number of homes which will be built or reveal how many will be affordable homes.
A supporting document submitted with the application said the layout, scale, appearance and landscaping of the site will be considered after further consultation with the public, which ends on November 8.
It also said up to 30 per cent of the homes could be affordable and part of the site will be set aside for a primary school and some small businesses.
The Larkbear Action Group, a campaign group set up by a number of Lake residents who oppose the development, was set to meet on Tuesday night to discuss the application.
Stuart Watson-Davies, one of the group's 160 members, said he didn't feel the group was in a position to comment at the time the Journal went to press.
