High hopes for Bude florist in Diamond Jubilee competition at Chelsea Show

Professional florist Erica Tippett is going for gold at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show after being nominated for Junior Florist of the Year 2012. Erica, 25, wowed judges with her entrance display; a gorgeous table top arrangement that utilising test tubes, perspex and some really beautiful flowers.
Working from Bleujen Florist in Bude, Erica has beaten off tough competition to gain a place in this year’s show and achieved an amazing 91 points of out 100 with her qualifying arrangement. In regards to this year’s ‘Diamonds are Forever’ theme, tying in with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the finalists must create a floral chandelier to be hung at the Queen’s Jubilee celebration dinner. This is quite a challenge for the florists but Erica remains confident about her entry.
She says, “This is the best idea so far in my opinion. I’m really excited and can’t wait to get started. I’ve begun a mood board and have lots of ideas for what I’m going to create. At the moment I’m exploring all possibilities in terms of materials, dimensions, colours, styles and, of course, logistics. It’s a long way from Cornwall to London after all!”
“Every year I’ve learnt something new and I’m hoping to use this knowledge to get the gold this year.” Erica and the other finalists will be competing for Gold, Silver-Gilt, Silver and Bronze medals, awarded by the judges from The UK Floristry Judges Guild on behalf of the RHS.
