HMV has confirmed it may consider moving to Barnstaple permanently.

Yesterday it emerged that the company is opening a temporary 'pop-up shop' in the Green Lanes shopping centre in Barnstaple. It will create 10 jobs during the two months from Novemver 5 to January 5.

Today Gennaro Castaldo from HMV said the company would consider a permanent move if it could find the right site and there was strong demand locally.

He said: "We're really looking forward to opening our store in the Green Lanes shopping centre in time for Christmas and to bring greater local choice in music, film, games and technology products.

"Our entertainment 'pop up' is due to continue through to January, but if we're able to find a suitable permanent location and there's also a really strong response to our offer locally it may be that we can look to remain for the longer-term.

"In any event we hope we will be of service and with some fantastic releases coming out on CD, DVD/Blu-ray and games from the likes of Robbie Williams, One Direction, Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, we hope we will be able to help everyone with their gift requirements."

I think it's a great idea to have a permanent HMV in Barnstaple! We don't really have anywhere to purchase reasonably priced media within town, you have to go out of town to Tesco's.

definately a great idea, but could be subject to shop leasing prices and agreements by Green lanes as i would presume this is the one of the major factors as to why so many have recenlty closed with footfall still remaining the same.

I would like to see it do well just to fill the empty units. But we do have 2 excellent record shops here, with Solo and Matt the Hat's place, so I hope they don't suffer as a result. Support your local shops 'cos we'll miss them when they've gone!

Excellent idea, if a short term solution to Barnstaple's empty retail units.
