POLICE have arrested a suspected shoplifter after CCTV images were published in the North Devon Journal.

Two weeks ago the Journal launched a new feature with Devon and Cornwall Police to see if readers could identify suspected criminals who were caught on CCTV.

As a result of the appeal, a 23-year-old Ilfracombe man was arrested on suspicion of stealing six packs of women's razors from The Co-operative store in Ilfracombe.

DI Dave Atkinson of Barnstaple CID said: "We had a number of calls after the feature in the Journal and we are currently pursuing several other leads."

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101.

To be clear I meant that those who are from the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary are pathetic articles. The chap who seemingly and inadvertently stole some ladies' razors could not have been thinking clearly. Absent-mindedness can affect anyone but the Ilfracombe plods would make an issue of of anything unconsequencial whilst ignoring the bigger picture. I have encountered those of the Ilfracombe Constabulary who cannot read. The local authority ombudsman has repeatedly told me to show relevant documentation to an officer of the local police service. However, the plods in Ilfracombe cannot read. The plods in Ilfracombe are at the literacy level of their fellows who were born and bred in Ilfracombe.

Surely, this displays the innate mentality of those currently associated with the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. Our predecessors from all walks of life would have sought to help those who had clearly lost their way in life. The current brigade merely seeks an easy conviction. Shame on them! Such pathetic articles!
