Barnstaple commuters are facing a miserable journey home this evening as heavy rainfall causes severe flooding on some roads and disruption to rail services.

Fire crews have been attending reports of flooding across North Devon all afternoon following torrential rainfall. Motorists have also taken to twitter to warn others of the dangers. One twitter user has said the road from Eastleigh to Barnstaple is completely flooded. Another said there is 'very bad' flooding on the link road.

Train services are currently disrupted between Crediton and Barnstaple following an earlier line closure and major road closures are planned for Barnstaple this evening from 7.00pm onwards.
